Drosophila/Vertebrate Genes in Development:

Pair-rule family

even-skipped

Definition:

Function

even-skipped (eve) is a pair-rule gene that encodes a homeobox transcription factor. Even-skipped is a transcriptional repressor of a number of genes.

eve is expressed in a pattern of seven evenly spaced stripes in the precellular embryo. It play a key role in the establishment of the metameric body plan.

Protein:

homeodomain protein, DNA-binding transcription factor.
